FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – St. Lawrence NYSARC (www.slnysarc.org), a private, non-profit organization committed to maximizing the potential of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is holding a walk to promote awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Village Park on Main Street in Canton, N.Y. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The event will be hosted by WWNY-TV’s Jeff Cole. Rose and Kiernan, Inc. is the presenting sponsor.
This year’s theme is “Circus” and there will be a costume contest open to everyone with a variety of great prizes available to win! The Autism Awareness Walk is a non-competitive walk to promote education and support services offered by St. Lawrence NYSARC for people on the Autism Spectrum. There is no registration fee, but walkers who raise $50 or more will receive an Autism Awareness Walk t-shirt, while supplies last. The 2018 t-shirt features art by Zachery Caskinette. The first 350 registered participants will get a complimentary gift bag. This year’s event will also include free pizza from Little Italy in Canton and drinks from Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers. Activities will include carnival games, a flag contest, entertainment, and a visit from Elroy the Elk. Yes-FM 96.7’s Dave Merz of, “Merz in the Morning,” will broadcast live from the park!

St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Children and Youth Program provides individualized services for people with developmental disabilities from three to 22 years old with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Students participate in a variety of skill development activities addressing social, daily living, and academic skills using principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
