FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – St. Lawrence NYSARC (www.slnysarc.org), a private, non-profit organization committed to maximizing the potential of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, announced that Patricia Campanella (Ogdensburg, New York), President of the Board of Directors, was selected as The Arc New York’s Volunteer of the Year. The award honors a volunteer member who has shown continued dedication, exemplary service, and advocacy on behalf of individuals who have intellectual or other developmental disabilities.
“Pat has been an integral part of decisions that have reformed the disability field, said Howard Ganter, Executive Director of St. Lawrence NYSARC. “Her advocacy efforts helped make important changes at both the State and local levels of The Arc New York and benefitted individuals we support with enhanced services that promote full integration and personal outcomes.”
Mrs. Campanella has been instrumental in fostering the growth of the Agency for 40 years. During her tenure, the organization has grown from supporting 100 people to over 767. She has held the role of President since June of 1984. Other local chapter volunteer efforts include committee membership, including: Personnel, Community Residence, Development, Membership, Nomination, Guardianship, and Incident Review. Mrs. Campanella also serves as a Trustee for the Foundation of St. Lawrence NYSARC.
On the State level, Mrs. Campanella has been an Arc NY Board of Governor for 35 years. She held the role of Regional Vice President for a total of 10 years and was the Central Region Representative for five years. Mrs. Campanella was involved on several committees as part of The Arc NY’s Executive Committee and had the role of Secretary from 2010 to 2011. She is currently the Chairperson of the Board Orientation Workgroup and has had this role since 2013.
“Pat has demonstrated consistent and committed leadership for both The Arc New York and for our chapter, in the face of many challenges,” said Jackie Sauter, Vice President of St. Lawrence NYSARC. “Her knowledge of the issues and specifics facing our organization is vast and deep, the result of decades of involvement and hard work.”
