Jefferson Rehabilitation Center in Watertown has opened a new playground to accommodate children with special needs.
A ribbon cutting was held at the playground Wednesday. The project has been in the works for several years.
Donations for the handicap-accessible equipment totaled about $90,000 and with the help of volunteers, the playground was built and is now ready to be used.
“We do have both typically developing and children with disabilities in the preschool,” JRC Foundation director Michelle Carpenter said, “so,it was very important to us that our playground reflected the diversity among the children in our preschool.”
Carpenter says the playground will be open through the winter so that kids in the program will be able to exercise and have a place to play.
