The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence (www.thearcjslc.org), recently held their Annual Meeting to elect the officers for the Board of Directors, as well as honor employees, volunteers, and individuals supported by the agency. The 2021-2022 elected officers for The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence Board of Directors are as follows: Jackie Sauter, President; Jennifer VanReenen, Vice President; and Joanne Rhode, Secretary/Treasurer.
 
Staff members, people supported, and volunteers were recognized for their achievements during the past year. Jane Hewlett received the David Brassbridge Staff Member of the Year Award. Hewlett is a Direct Support Professional with Residential Services who has over 11 years of experience with the agency. Hewlett is enthusiastic about assisting people to enjoy community activities, have fun, and achieve their goals. Hewlett understands and responds to the likes and interests of the residents she supports. She knows what activities each person may enjoy or what is important to them and responds accordingly.
 
Deborah Broadhurst received the Stephen Robarge Employee of the Year Award. As an employee with more than 30 years of experience, Broadhurst was honored for her unwavering dedication to the agency, her strong work ethic, positive personality, and love she has for children at the Bright Beginnings Preschool. In her role as a Teacher’s Aide, she always puts the children first to ensure their safety and progress. Broadhurst has become the primary trainer for new staff because she has a solid understanding of regulations and an excellent ability to get the message across in a welcoming, easy to comprehend manner.
 
Amy Kirshner was awarded The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence’s Kathy Hill Individual of the Year Award. Kirshner lives in an agency residence in Watertown and works at Production Unlimited. She also enjoys doing volunteer work with the Community PreVocational program. Kirshner knows what she likes and advocates to do activities that are meaningful while helping others.
 
The Self-Advocate of the Year Award was given to Jody Butchino for her work at the Ogdensburg Seaway Industries program. She works in this integrated business doing kitting on the New York Airbrake contract. She comes to work with a good attitude and is focused on accuracy. Butchino has a strong sense of what is right and respectfully shares her wishes. She also makes it a point to assist others who may need support to share their opinions.
 
The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence provides lifelong opportunities that enhance the lives of people, so that they may achieve their goals and aspirations.
